The Diabolical Trap

Chapter 7

Astro stood in the middle of the stairs between floors. From there he had an overview of most of the store. As agreed, he motioned to Zoran, who darted off. The little girl ran around the children, bounding and bouncing at the speed of lightning. She flung into the air and, one kick, smashed the first camera. Without wasting a second, she headed to another. She also broke it cleanly. She ran so fast that it was difficult to follow her with your eyes. Astro was impressed. His little sister was destroying all of the Lord of Darkness's surveillance units.

The reaction didn't take long. His voice boomed throughout the store:

“Stop this little pest! She's destroying all the cameras! Stop her immediately!”

Astro was right. The employees with clown masks tried to open the welded door but could not come in! Meanwhile, Zoran continued her demolition job with tremendous efficiency. The children had understood that she was going to fight for them, and they began to encourage her. They moved out of her way, greeting each camera destruction with an enthusiastic bravo.

"What are you doing?" the Lord of Darkness became enraged. "She's breaking everything, I can see almost nothing! Intervene, I order you, reduce this brat to a boil!"

Prisoners behind the welded doors, the clowns still had not intervened. They could be heard flapping helplessly. For the last camera, Zoran performed a masterful somersault and landed on it with both feet, scattering debris all around. The children cheered.

"Bravo, Zoran, well done!" exclaimed Astro, proud.

All eyes turned to him. He tore off his disguise, and a clamour went up when the children recognized him.

“Her name is Zoran, and she's my little sister!”

All the children began to clap harder, uttering cries of joy.

Suddenly, the beautiful hill on which the model train wound around opened in two. The tall figure of the Lord of Darkness appeared.

The nearest children fled, terrified.

"Everything must be done by yourself!" yelled the monster in the metal mask.

In anger, he sent out a giant walking stuffed teddy.

“You will pay me back for this!” he snarled, brandishing his fist.

He rushed to the children.

Astro unleashed his reactors and rushed to meet the monster. The Lord was huge and protected by magnetic armour. The robot child would struggle to stop him without hurting the kids! He suddenly had an idea and focused...

"Go, toys, to the rescue!"

Using the waves emitted by its computer brain, he ordered all radio-controlled toys to throw themselves on the Lord of Darkness. Then, suddenly hundreds of flying cars, radio-guided rockets, remote controlled dolls, and stuffed animals rushed onto the huge black silhouette.

The Lord of Darkness easily got rid of the first vehicles that came over him but, at their numbers, he was soon retreating. Thousands of toys assailed. The flashing lights of fire trucks and police were blinking, sirens screaming, singing dolls, airplanes and rockets roared all their engines. He was bombarded from head to toe.

The children were screaming with joy. Above the melee, Astro coordinated an attack.

The evil Lord struggled with increasing difficulty. Soon he swung back and found himself buried under the mass of toys that poured in from throughout the store.

Astro took the opportunity to sneak into the secret command post, hidden in the heart of the miniature hill.

"Zoran, come help me!"

Together, they locked all store openings. Immediately, the shielded panels went up, releasing the doors and letting in the sun's rays. The children rushed outside.

Under the mountain of toys, the Lord of Darkness did not move.

Astro grinned as he saw the hostages leave. He took his sister in his arms and hugged her against him.

"I think we did a good job," he said.

In response, she gave him a big kiss on the cheek.

The authorities arrested all the men of the Lord of Darkness, but discovered no trace of him in the pile of toys. He certainly managed to escape. Astro imagined his rage at having been defeated by kids...and toys!

The store was now deserted and in very bad condition. Astro and Zoran went out. The weather was great.

Professor O'Shay ran to the two little robots.

"Congratulations to both of you," he exclaimed with a big smile. "We were all scared for you."

"Thank you, Professor. Zoran was great. Without her, I wouldn't have succeeded. "

"You've saved the city. But you're still getting scolded!" said the Professor with a mischievous air.

"Why?" asked Astro and Zoran in unison.

"Because you are very late for lunch."

All three of them laughed.

For her first outing in the city, Zoran had been strong! And that was only the beginning of her adventures with Astro...
